Re: Web designer wants to borrow my laptop http://www.ukplumbersforums.co.uk/images/s

Easy, Peasy, do this:
Stop visiting illicite gay **** sites
Stop hacking other peoples bank accounts
Stop ordering online gay sex toys
TAKE A FECKING BIG HAMMER TAE YER LAPPY.

OR:
Open Firefox
Go to TOOLS
Select CLEAR RECENT HISTORY
A box will appear.....usually defaults at LAST HOUR, but click on that and select EVERYTHING

If you want it to be sooo deleted that even phorensics can't get see what you've been wan... err.. looking at. Get a free prog called file shredder and let it shred all your free hard drive space once you've deleted the history as per Sys's instructions :computer:

Re: Web designer wants to borrow my laptop http://www.ukplumbersforums.co.uk/images/s

is he a bloke? in which case what does it matter...

or say you can't because you don't have another and you need it for work every day. i've not heard of a web designer needing their client's laptops unless you've managed to do something very odd.

Re: Web designer wants to borrow my laptop http://www.ukplumbersforums.co.uk/images/s

clearing the history doesnt!!.
it just permits the disk to re-write over the space supplied.
to actually delete this space then zero's (as in 111100001110101010000011) need to be written over it. like said a file shreader works this way.
otherwise, minimise the cache space allocated to history, clear it, then re open a web page over and over again (sort of thing) which will then replace the history contents to minimum allocation then other tasks will over write it.

Re: Web designer wants to borrow my laptop http://www.ukplumbersforums.co.uk/images/s

bottom line is your'e all wrong. There are methods to re read data which has been written-over previous data, however it has been 'erased'. Each re-write is slightly off register from previous. Difficult to explain, but imagine you replaced a rad of same size in same location with same fittings. It would be microns (or millimeters or centimeters) off the EXACT same position as original. Top forensics can read data in these tiny gaps. Only done in extreme criminal cases but yes it can be and has been done. Only way to be ABSOLUTELY SURE of data destruction is to destroy the disc itself. Don't forget though that ISP's keep (legal requirement) a record of ALL/ANY sites that you have visited and your unique IP address.

I wrote a response to this earlier but I must have messed up somehow...
As stated above, deleting date only removes a marker from the file allocation table, the data is still there, you just can't see it. File shredder over writes all the unused space on your hard drive multiple times with random data, so really does delete it rather than just sort of losing it, which is what windows does.
I know this because I used to do dodgy DVDs and was paranoid :whatchutalkingabout

But for the purpose of someone borrowing his computer for a short time, then if the history is cleared then he/she should have no reason to look any further, unless they are fecking spies from MI5 or something or just nosy buggers who shouldn't be looking for anything any way.

Re: Web designer wants to borrow my laptop http://www.ukplumbersforums.co.uk/images/s

Or do as I do and bin Windows, use Linux, it's free, much faster, doesn't crash and no viruses. Data is permanently deleted if you so wish.

Re: Web designer wants to borrow my laptop http://www.ukplumbersforums.co.uk/images/s

As I said even 'shredding' does NOT render data unrecoverable in all cases-just much harder so there would have to be good cause to attempt costly recovery, BUT ISP's will still have a record of sites visited

you'd be surprised mate!
i used to be employed by eherm! 'the home office' in the early 90's, and i have a degree in programming.enough said.lol.

by the way, it is not a 'unique' ip address as i could clone anyones!..:)
in fact i will be doing so shortly to test the sites security, but dont tell dave.lol.
