gas pressure

In a mixture of gases, each constituent gas has a partial pressure which is the notional pressure of that constituent gas if it alone occupied the entire volume of the original mixture at the same temperature. The total pressure of an ideal gas mixture is the sum of the partial pressures of the gases in the mixture (Dalton's Law).
The partial pressure of a gas is a measure of thermodynamic activity of the gas's molecules. Gases dissolve, diffuse, and react according to their partial pressures, and not according to their concentrations in gas mixtures or liquids. This general property of gases is also true in chemical reactions of gases in biology. For example, the necessary amount of oxygen for human respiration, and the amount that is toxic, is set by the partial pressure of oxygen alone. This is true across a very wide range of different concentrations of oxygen present in various inhaled breathing gases or dissolved in blood; consequently, mixture ratios, like that of breathable 20% oxygen and 80% helium, are determined by volume instead of by weight or mass. Furthermore, the partial pressures of oxygen and carbon dioxide are important parameters in tests of arterial blood gases, but can also be measured in, for example, cerebrospinal fluid.

    reading gas pressure

Can someone clarify few bits bobs for me . As far as i am aware you allowed a pressure reading of plus or minus 1 from meter to appliance say boiler .If on my u gauge i get a reading of of more than this say a drop of 3 mbar to appliance from meter , would that indicate a blockage in gas pipe or...

Significant drop in gas pressure between meter and boiler

Hi guys, I had a Worcester bosch engineer out yesterday to look at my boiler, its been giving me some gip. Turns out I need to replace CH pump, however during the work guy did a gas pressure test and said it was too low. Now my boiler cover plan from Worcester bosch is invalidated until I get...

Low burner inlet gas pressure to ch boiler

A colleague has an older atmospheric burner fired gas boiler which although working fine is near the end of its life. The problem is that the meter is 400 metres away down a long drive, piped in 2" steel to the house. Although there is 23mbar at the meter outlet, the appliance inlet pressure...

Issue with inlet gas pressure on multifunction valve giving false reading

Interested to know if anyone else has had experiance of this. First time I noticed it was on a 60Kw floor standing air heater. We did the entire installation including the gas line from the meter to the unit. On commision gas reading showed a drop accross the gas line of about 4mBar. Then the...
