Thermostatic Mixer Shower

Hi all,

I’ve just removed a Triton mixer bar shower I had fitted ten years ago to replace it with a Mira shower.

The instructions suggest I should have 25mm of pipes sticking out so that I can put the wall brackets over them, then the olives and then the nipples. I don’t have this setup. If you see the photo of the pipes before the bathroom was tiled you will see I have valves (ignore the heads, they were taken out once the renovations were completed).

If I put the nipples directly into those valves they don’t stick out long enough once the concealers are on for the shower to attach to the nipples.

what do I need to do to be able to connect this? Can I get longer nipples?

Current elbows could be replaced with simple compression elbows back to 2 new 15mm pipe studs to get rid of old whatever they are. . .

However I'd want soldered elbows behind a wall so best get a Pro if you are not confident on that.

Silly Q though: Are you going to dot/dab cement board over the pipes ? (How long do you want shower to last).

Not sure if pipes chased into wall far enough but that depends how you cover them.

Solder two new elbows on the pipework in the wall you can then leave them long. Fit a compression cap on the pipes, plaster, tile or wet wall. Turn supplies off remove caps, while fitting tiles etc for neat holes refit caps allow wall etc to dry. Supplies off, remove caps follow instruction for fitting wall bracket.

In answer to your question, yes you can get long nipple barrel.

However the female iron elbows are 1/2” and I suspect your shower will require 3/4”, so you’ll need some 1/2” barrel, 1/2“ - 3/4 bush, 3/4” barrel. I hope you have enough depth for that ( should be ok .

You won’t have much adjustment either so hopefully those elbows are level/parallel....

Yes sorry it is fully tiled. That pic was 9 years ago when it was decorated. Here was a more up to date shot I found and the instructions from the currently installed shower so you can understand my currentl setup

Your shower should just fit straight onto the fittings that come out from the tiles.

Thanks for the reply but whilst the nipples do fit direct into those fittings they are not long enough when the concealers are on. from looking at the instructions for the new shower they want 25mm of exposed pipework. See how much thread I am left with once the concealers are on roughly. I was hoping I can get a longer hexagonal nipple but I can’t find anything when looking online but not sure what I am actually looking for!

Ah we’re getting there!

Some Miras fit onto pipe with olives, I guess you have one of those?

Your best bet is to exchange it for almost any other bar mixer valve as nearly all of them will be a straight swap for your Triton. Just ensure the new valve fits with 3/4” female threads and has 150mm centres. (I know classic British mixture of metric/imperial) - as above , this is 85% of such valves.

Can you use the old concealers, those new ones look very deep, or if you buy a fast fix kit and use the concealers from that it will be less trouble than mucking about with long barrels etc.

Thanks for replying. The old concealers are black so would look very odd with the new chrome shower. Grahams have supplied me with these to extend. not tried it yet so not sure how successful it will be

Good luck might work, like I said any fast fix kit will sort it, those shrouds you have are overly deep.
