I have a Potterton Promax 15 HE from around 2005.

When I put the hot water on for an hour or central heating, the boiler runs for about ten minutes then shuts off. If I drain the condensate trap using the bung underneath, it runs perfectly for the hour.

I tried draining the trap before putting the hot water on, but still it only runs for a short time until I drain it again then it is fine. At the moment I am having to do this daily to get it to work.

An engineer is coming out on Monday. I have no intention of opening the boiler and trying to fix it...I am just interested to understand the fault?
