Hello im looking for a gas safe registered engineer who is willing to help me within the greater manchester area.
next week i have assesments at 2 colleges for gas placement courses 1 is for the bpec foundation & the other is for the city & guilds tech certificate level 2 im a mature 43 year old bloke who just wants a helping hand. I would like someone to take me on for 1 day per week to help with installation work etc in gas ,I will work this day for nothing other than to gain experience and build up a working relationship with a gas safe engineer .If i take the tech route after 2 years i will posess level 2/3 tech cert and enroll on the nvq this is when i need to build my portfolio so for the first 2 years i want nothing other than some experience then I would like help in building my portfolio.
During the next 2 years i will be self employed in wet plumbing work I will hold the 6129 level 2 tech cert & working towards my nvq 6089 the question is will anybody help me ????

Just a tip for anyone whos thinking about it.

You cannot employ someone for free, even if it's just helping out. We took someone on for "free" but paid them £25 a day. The guy then took us to some tribunal saying we were paying him too little, and we had to make his wages up!

but is it not true that an employer has to employ someone for 2 years before that employee has any rights anyway the only thing i am asking for is help building a portfolio not the earth and another point for anyone considering helping i can also plaster ,tile & help out in other ways . thanks

jaguar if you do get someone to offer you a chance of work ,remember they should have employers liability insurance,if they dont therer public liabitiy is void,
it can be difficult to offer work even when they dont want paying, because of what can happen.

Hello just an update on this thread i have now secured a place in college for september .I will be studying for c&g 6132 level 2 at this point i will be halfway through my c&g 6129 tech cert and once i have completed this i will be taking my nvq level 2/3 6089 in plumbing thanks

It is worth noting that despite the 6129 and previously 6128 (which is what Im finishing) - despite 'ending' are still valid and recognised qualifications, are they not?

they are only tec certs, not classed as the full qual until they are upgraded to the nvq. when the new quals are out later this year there will be no direct replacement for the tec cert, only the new nvq which will become a diploma, hope this helps

Jaguar66, you come on here and seem all genuine and willing to do the right thing and all you got was grief and not 1 single good bit of advise... shame really :(

If you were nearer I would of offered you the day/info you seek..

But good luck with the courses and hope you do find someone to help get you going as the course and class room stuff is indeed good grounding, but the job in the real world is rather much different.
Best of luck with it......
