Evening all! I intend to join one if these two organisations in the near future And I'm wondering which one will be best for me. They both seem to hae their advantages. Just Cant make up my mind. I have one year experience in the trade, and I'm looking to use these organisation to increase my knowledge through the courses and perks they offer. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Also, can they help you attract customers? I understand that these ate professional organisations which are trying to raise the standard of plumbing and heating in the uk, but will the customer recognise this?

Most customers wouldn't know a professional body if it smacked them between the eyes. I'm a member of the CIPHE and have been for years and find the networking with other professionals the most useful aspect.

I agree with Mike, I have been a registered plumber for 20 years, maybe get 2 jobs a year directly from being registered.
I have won a few jobs when quotes have been similar due to perceived standard of CIPHE membership (I am sure the other guys would have done as good a job).
They do sort out good technical presentations from manufacturers and professional bodies and CPD is part of the membership requirement.
I was a bit annoyed when they brought out the RHP (registered heating professional) designation and want to charge £30 with proof I know how to work on heating, when I have been registered as a time served plumber with them for so long!

Until its mandortary to join a plumbing body such as these I will not be paying any of them a penny, you would be surprised at how many customers are unaware of the Gas Safe Register.

Hello all, I’m replacing a concrete paving slab patio in the back yard. The original patio used 50mm deep concrete slabs on hardcore & sand. I’m planning to pour a 100mm deep concrete patio on 100mm hardcore. In order to achieve the same final height to line up with the rest of the patio, I...

I was stupid enough not to check the position of the pipes under the tiles when installing a toilet and drilled right through the center of a 16 mm copper water pipe. I exposed the pipe by removing a ~30cm section of the plastic sleeve and a ~10 cm section of the pipe around the hole. Several...
