Hi Guys, any help here be greatly appreciated.

I have had some issues with our heating since it was installed in april. during autumn i noticed it was pumping over into the F/E tank. An expansion vessel and auto air release was fitted to deal with this. After this the radiators in the bedrooms stopped working. This was pegged from a flush not being done(that was paid for) when new boiler fitted in beginning. Since then we been having problems with bedroom radiators, a flush and magneclean was done and new return valves fitted today. When the plumbers were in the heating gets going and all rads hot. then at night when all downstairs rads are off and when we only need our room at 18-20 degrees during night for newborn they dont work. We have the evohome honeywell installed and smart trvs on all rads, i have even popped them off and manually opened valves and no heat. it almost seems random when they work upstairs. for example tonight the nursery was working around 4/5pm and now not. back bedroom getting hot but not front room opposite. when we moved in it had an old boiler and all rads in the house heated up fine. We replaced it with a more efficient model and got the evohome as we got a grant for it. I was told today four out of 13 were faulty but that wouldnt explain why hot water seemingly randomly makes it to some radiators

From the physical description of your installation, in October was it converted from a vented to a sealed system?

On the control side:

Faulty components in Evohome are very rare. I have only had 1 HR92 fail in well over 700 installed. The issue is normally incorrectly or double bound components.

If you go into the Evohome menu : press and hold settings until the configuration menu appears. Press the green tick, then press system summary. On the right hand side it will tell you which zones are calling for heat - that will help you identify the incorrectly installed / configured Evohome components in your system.

As a pointer, if you remove the HR92 and manually open the valve, the radiator in that zone will only get hot if another zone is calling for heat. A removed actuator (HR92) will only call for heat after it has completed its calibration routine by opening and closing the valve. If it is not mounted that can give erroneous results / signals to the central controller.

It is probanly best to remove all the Evohome controls and set up / balance the installation first. Then, when the boiler and the hydraulic side of your heating is working properly reintroduce Evohome.

Smart heating systems can sometimes mask fundamental issues that are wrong with an installation. Evohome does not operate as it might appear on an on /off basis. The valve will send a signal to the controller with the room temperature, after confirmation (ie a second signal received from the valve) the controller will send a signal to the valve telling it what to do for the next 20 to 30 minutes. The controller will also fire the boiler. Signals are only sent over a 30 second period once every four minutes (to conserve battery life).

great advice i went through it with plumber today, he wasnt very familiar with smart systems. He found the new balancing valve was closed and that the valve upstairs were not calling boiler. A specialist in the evohome range is due tomorrow, he said the same he never had an issue with faulty equipment, being manhandled and setting changed by other plumbers is the issue. He is going to factory reset and re-sync everything.

thank you, merry christmas

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...
