Hello guys, an easy one: I recently had to drill through two outside walls to run 15mm pipes for a shower and sink. The holes are neat enough but need to be closed off to prevent draughts. Can I use expanding foam to block them? I wouldn't do this with central heating pipes, but the shower and...
I'm trying to remove the zone valve ion vented tank and the tank started leaking around the joint.
I was hoping to just run the tank with immersion till I can get an unvented.
Any tips to stop leaks or do you think I need to buy temporary tank.
Any help appreciated as I'm without hot water now.

Hi guys. I noticed when I was cleaning the toilet the other day that there are some large cracks just under the rim jet area of my toilet bowl. The toilet itself is old, I've not noticed it before, but I dont usually go looking inside the toilet much, just pop some bleach up there etc. The...
I’m at a loss with this one. We renovated a run down house and have lived in it now for about 16 months. We had a new Greenstar 8000 Style 35 installed. Just before Christmas - about 12 months after install - we came home to a funny smell like paint, shoe polish etc - a very chemical smell...
I had a history at my home with the oring failing on my tub spout leading to water leaking through the pipe opening in the wall. I had put new o-rings but for extra precaution I sealed up the space around the pipe with thinset.
This was about 10 months ago.
Now I’m wondering if long term this...
I'm currently refurbishing a room and in the process adding some internal wall insulation.
The wall has been stripped and my plumber is coming this week to install/reconfigure the pipework for new radiators.
The walls are solid brick and as I am installing insulated plasterboards, we agreed...
Hi, we've just had someone round to fit lino in our toilet. He ripped up the old lino only to reveal a large wet patch around the toilet (see photo). The floor is damp to touch and I'm left wondering what could be the cause of this? Given the shape of the damp patch, would it likely be a leaking...
I am currently doing a new build requiring 2 shower trays to use as walk in showers. The tray I currently have does not appear to have angled rims around the edges so water constantly pools at the sealant and doesn't run into the tray and drain. Can anyone recommend d a tray that does have...
Hi we came home this afternoon to our Nest not connecting to the Heatlink and we can smell a little gas around Vaillant Ecotec plus 630.
Tried a number of times to get the nest to connect to the heatlink, but it will not. We can use the heatlink override to get heating and hot water on, but...
The situation is as follows. I have a shower enclosure which is slightly too small for the new shower tray. In a way this works to my advantage. I think. Why, because I stupidly bought 3mm wet wall panels. I didn't forsee the issues this would cause. (The panels not being thick enough to overlap...
Hi. I recently bought a house and the shower is leaking. I'm guessing it just needs the washers replaced. However, when I started to have a look I noticed some kind of sealant between the tap body and the opening in the tiles. I can't get to the tap with a spanner to unscrew it as the sealant is...
Morning,
I'm planning chimney maintenance work in July. Its a stone chimney, cement rendered above the roofline with wood burner and stainless lined flue installed 8/9 years ago. There is no ventilation of the space in the chimney around the liner. Is there any reason why I shouldn't put a...
Hey guys and girls,
I’m desperately searching online but I cannot find any one who offers an NVQ level 3 plumbing diploma.
I am currently enrolled into level 3 plumbing diploma and will be finished shortly and want to advance and get the NVQ and then go on to train gas down the line but am...
Hi all, I really hope I can get an answer from you lovely people!
I currently have a bit of a mouse problem, and it seems that they are getting in to the cupboard under my kitchen sink through the hole where my hot and cold water pipes enter the cupboard from under the floor, or where the waste...
So. I have managed to fit shower panels directly over tiles. My issue however is I had to cut the shower panels more than I had liked around where the water pipes come in due to the metal fixings that attached them to the wall. This now means when I screw the pipe collars back over the pipes...
Hello there
Quick question: I have installed a new boiler today. The engineer is foing ro back tomorrow.
The boiler is in the conservatory mounted on the wall. The flue pipes exit from top of the boiler through a round hole to outside the house.
There is a big gap around the hole and...
I'm handy, but not much plumbing experience. Firstly, if I go under my house the toilet PVC line goes into the ground with a "pyramid" cement casing around it. What is that called? I want to google the best way to cut through it without damaging any pipes but don't event know the name of it.
I...
