New, old member - welcome again.

Welcome again! I'm 45, a Registered Adult nurse working in busy, acute medical wards. At work, I almost constantly deal with fluids and tiny pipeworks: IV, subcut, veins, ports, midlines, cannulas, oral, and nasogastric.. Yay.. Yet, after Covid19 something started to slowly break down at me...

Boiler kittling again after 2 yrs of fixing.

A bit of history first. 2 yrs ago visited a grant boiler with boiler and pipework kettling. I added SentX200 noise reducer. It is standard open vented system S plan Also found there was no bypass and this was an external boiler with frost stat so boiler would start with no valves open...

Hi all, I am 38 years old and have spent the last 15 years of my working life as an accountant. I have recently been made redundant so have a fair bit of money but don't want to continue my career in finance. Hence why I am here :) I have no qualifications in the "trades" or real practical...

How many BTUs to I need? (Yes, that question again.)

I'm thinking of replacing an exiting radiator (see photo) with something a bit more exciting. A bit of Googling suggests the existing one is rated at about 5600 BTUs. (It's 1100mm by 500mm, type 22.) I've used about 10 online BTU calculators to try to get an idea of what's actually needed. Some...

Replacement shower valve reduced water pressure -need to replace again

Hi we had a Thermostatic Aqualisa shower valve upstairs that was tank fed upstairs in our house and it had great water pressure. We recently had our shower completely redone and the valve the plumber put in doesn't seem to be very good and the water now has very low pressure. We know the...

Air source heat pumps in the news again

I'm getting so sick of the media and tories plugging ashp's like they are the solution to all our heating needs. Latest news today, £5k grant towards the cost of replacing a gas boiler with an ashp. What a joke. Every ashp system I've worked on and installed runs the heating at 40 degrees...

Tub/Shower Faucet Eventually Starts Dripping Again After Replacing Valve Stems

Ah, the joys of older home ownership (1974). We thought our major plumbing issues were dealt with when we got rid of our orangeburg sewer line and our rusted out galvanized supply line to our house. It's still galvanized under the house, but we live in a very dry climate and the pipes/joints...

Netaheat switches off and back on again

Any advice as to what is causing this. Maybe relevant? We had a power cut about 5 days ago - I don't think the heating was on at the time but the power cut caused the timer to be reset. It was the weirdest power cut I have ever experienced... the lights dimmed like some horror film.. but the...
